There are several of these old 60′s/70′s quasi International style buildings getting a few new licks of paint in SLC. The realtor seems to have a good sense of making a building more appealing to possible tenants. The question, of course, is whether the paint jobs will be maintained or if the buildings will fall into peeling disrepair over the years. Philosophically I’m opposed to painting brick as people don’t maintain the paint and the buildings end up looking terrible. Future owner then go drastic and sandblast the facade (which destroys the brick and brings about the demise of the building.)

The buildings do look spiffy, however. Certainly much better than their blase originals (look at any contemporary building to see that.) Perhaps we are going back to some more aesthetic sensibilities as opposed to just plain-old (boring and soul-killing) functionalism.

Question for GWUtah folks: where is this one?

Actually the “buyer’s realtor” is quite new as far as realty goes. You don’t need one at all! Just assess the property and apply for a loan through a financial institution like Wells Fargo. The seller’s realtor can direct you to funding as well.

The Real Estate Standards Organizations (RESO) has published the schedule for its Spring Conference scheduled for April 18-20, at the headquarters of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) in Chicago.

RESO is a recently incorporated 501 (c)(6), not-for-profit trade association committed to delivering proficient data standards to the real estate industry.

In a continuing demonstration of support, NAR is both a Charter Member of RESO and the only Class A member. An additional 45 organizations have joined RESO since the inaugural recruitment campaign was initiated on February 15, 2012.

The RESO goal of making it easier for Realtors to conduct business by creating universal MLS standards that eliminate redundancies, foster innovation and increase data analysis will be a theme throughout the Spring Conference.

The Real Estate Transaction Standard (RETS) creates a common platform for the exchange of real estate data and facilitates the sharing of that data among organizations desiring to do so. Many MLS data exchange service providers are currently using the RETS protocol.

RESO?s newest work product is the Data Dictionary, a critical piece in driving the adoption and use of the RETS standard across multiple businesses and business models. There will be several sessions at the conference devoted to this topic, from a high level overview to technical discussion of existing definitions and next steps. Rob Larson, CTO of CRMLS will present one of the Data Dictionary sessions at the conference.

Wednesday?s program, April 18, focuses on the organizational structure of the new entity that is RESO. Rebecca Jensen, RESO chair and CEO at Utah Real Estate.com / Wasatch Front Regional MLS, will address governance topics for RESO along with the organization?s strategic goals for 2012. In a general session, attendees will have an opportunity to hear how RESO and RETS will impact their organizations.

Thursday, April 19, programs will address data security and the RETS standard, acceleration of data sharing and commercial data standards. Attendees will learn how other standard-setting organizations have gone from a loosely organized committee or taskforce to a nationally known entity that has expanded its reach deep within the land records continuum. Mark Monacelli, public records and property valuations director for St. Louis County, Minn., is a former president of the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) and was in the trenches as PRIA moved from a taskforce to an established 501 (c)(6) association. He will share his experience, including the successes and pitfalls, during a session on Thursday morning.

The Technical Workgroup will take center stage on Thursday afternoon to address the data dictionary, transports scenarios and R&D use cases, among other topics.

Tech Friday?s discussion will delve deeply into programming construction for building a RESTful API, while the closing session will look ahead to the next six months of work to be undertaken leading up to the Fall Conference.
