In the 2001 Academy Award-winning film, ?A Beautiful Mind,? Russell Crowe played Nobel Prize-winner John Nash, a brilliant mathematician suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. This movie inspired a personal breakthrough for author Michael J. Ochinero, who was diagnosed having bipolar disorder. The film gave him the strength to live a better lifestyle unhindered by his disorder or relying on medication. To help others in similar situations, Ochinero has penned his new book ?Mind Over Medicine: The Common Man’s Holistic Guide to Managing Bipolar Disorder? (published by AuthorHouse)
?Bipolar is a livable disorder if you have the right frame of mind,? explains Ochinero. ?You can, through the power of your own mind and with determination, live being bipolar, and do so without drugs.?
?Mind Over Medicine? takes a personal look into the events of Ochinero?s life. He hopes that readers draw a similarity through his story as he endures the same trials of daily living that many suffering from bipolar disorder experience, ultimately discovering they are not alone in their struggle.
?This book is for those who suffer firsthand from bipolar disorder and those who must live with them. It is my hope and determination that they are able to be themselves and treat the disorder in a manner that suits them ? being that they do so with little or no drugs.?
About the Author
Michael J. Ochinero was diagnosed with bipolar disorder nearly eight years ago. He struggled and was misdiagnosed for many years prior to that. He tried traditional treatment with counseling and medication, which left him feeling deeply dissatisfied. Ochinero felt life on medication did help manage his anger but made it worse, and left him feeling like a shell of his former self. He felt his life lacked joy, and, tired of the feeling of being in a shell, he began searching for ways to allow him to have the relationships and emotional depth he longed for. He devised his own method after receiving inspiration from an unusual, yet familiar source. After finding peace and joy in his life, Ochinero wanted to share with others that there is something better than simply accepting what modern medicine has to offer. Ochinero lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife and two dogs.
